The Senator Wrasse, Pictilabrus laticlavius, is one of the most common fish species on temperate Australian RLS transects, but is also one of the most commonly misidentified.
While males are easy to spot with their bright green colour and distinctive body pattern, females and juveniles are often misidentified for other wrasse species found in the same region, including Rosy Wrasse (Pseudolabrus mortonii), Black-spotted Wrasse (Austrolabrus maculatus) and Brown-spotted Wrasse (Notolabrus parilus).
