Irregular 'W' shaped dark mark on upper body, above and just posterior to pectoral fin base. Known from Seychelles and Mauritius, Western Australia and Great Barrier Reef, Japan, Palau, Micronesia, through Polynesia to French Polynesia and Pitcairn Islands.
