Robust body with chevron markings that cross the lateral line, but lacking the scalloped tail shape of S. barracuda and S. qenie. Also lacks the elongated fin rays forming a filament on the lower rear margin of the rear dorsal fin, which is a characteristic of S. putnamae. Tail often yellow.
