Description
Distinct pattern of large round dark spots on a pale cream body. In habits sand and mud areas adjacent to reefs, searching for prey in crevices and under rocks or buried beneath sediment with only eyes and nostrils showing when inactive. Location distinguishes it from very similar M. maculosus (Ocellate Snake Eel), which is located in the Indo-Pacific region.
