Distribution

Tropical Indo-Pacific

Description

Found deep in the branches of Acropora hard corals. Colour patterns with red stripe along back and blue bands on head and becoming less distinct down the body represents those of an undescribed species shown in Allen & Erdmann 2012 as Gobiodon species 3, although that has only been recorded in SE Asia. Also possibly a variation of similar G. histrio, G. rivulatus or G. quinquestrigatus.

Conservation and Rarity

IUCN Status: Not Evaluated

Occurrence: Frequent (17.2% of sites)

Abundance: Not determined

Abundance is calculated as the average number of individuals recorded per RLS transect, where present.
