Description
Variable and often multi-coloured body that can be rapidly changed, series of oblique parallel lines on lower operculum, lines radiating from eye, and centre of tail usually yellow or white. Tail base lacks white ring as in O. unifasciatus (Ringtail Maori Wrasse), and small white zig-zags as in O. orientalis (Oriental Maori Wrasse). Usually curious or more easily approached than other Oxycheilinus species.
