Distribution

Temperate Australasia, Temperate northern Pacific, Tropical Indo-Pacific


Description

Adults with humped head profile, large dark tail with wide rounded lobes, fins red to black. Commonly in large stationary schools hovering over the reef during the day. Juveniles grey with large round black patch on tail base, yellow tail fin and vertical dark bar through eye.
