Description
Yellowish brown humped head, blending into a green body. The species generally remains concealed in crevices during the day and moves about in the open when feeding at night. A second temperate moray eel, the speckled moray Gymnothorax obesus, occurs along the New South Wales coast. This eel is easily distinguished by colour pattern, as it has numerous cream speckles scattered over a brown body. A few tropical moray eels also occasionally occur, but are rarely encountered.
