Description
Long tube-like snout with a small barbel at the front of lower jaw, wedge-shaped tail without a filament, as on Fistularia species (Flutemouths). Occurs in two colour forms: Bright yellow, and grey-brown (more common). Grey-brown form usually has faint white stripes (sometimes more distinct), and a black area containing vertical lines of white spots preceding a yellow tail base banded with white. All markings can be more or less distinct. Swims slowly above reef.
