Senator Wrasse, Pictilabrus laticlavius, ID infographic

Nov 20, 2018

The Senator Wrasse (Pictilabrus laticlavius) is one of the most common fish species on temperate Australian RLS transects, but is also one of the most commonly misidentified.
While males are easy to spot with their bright green colour and distinctive body pattern, females and juveniles are often mistaken for other wrasse species found in the same region, including Rosy wrasse (Pseudolabrus mortonii), Black-spotted wrasse (Austrolabrus maculatus) and Brown-spotted wrasse (Notolabrus parilus).

We’ve created this ID infographic to help you learn exactly what features to look for so you’ll never misidentify a Senator wrasse again (not that you’ve done it in the past … ).
