Distribution

Temperate Australasia, Tropical Indo-Pacific


Description

Dark stripe from snout to tail base, oblique dark bars on upper and lower lobes of tail, brown speckled back and pale silver underside with scattered dark spots, dark blotch on tip of first dorsal and dark blotch and white tip on second dorsal. Distinguished from less common U. australiae (Australian Goatfish) by blotches on dorsal fins and spots on belly. Length to 30 cm.
