Temperate Africa, Temperate Australasia, Tropical Indo-Pacific


Description

Reflective silver sides with dark metallic blue upper body and distinctive arrangement of light organs along sides and belly. Like other lanternfishes, generally occur in oceanic depths below 100m, but move into shallower water at night, where they are occasionally observed near deep drop-offs. Move about with a rapid jerking motion.
